Toasted

The conference is over. I can now stop substituting calories consumed for sleep missed.

I had nine hours of sleep last night (although it was interrupted early this morning by a staff colleague calling to ask if I wanted to share a cab to the airport, grrr, I specifically told him last night that I wasn't leaving today, why can't anyone ever remember anything?).

Looking forward to the R&R portion of the program now.

In Austin

Rising from the crypt this morning at 5:30 am after a scant two hours' sleep, I schlumped onto a plane at eight, and six hours later I find myself in Austin, Texas. DC had finally cooled off to what looked to be a beautiful weekend... here, it's a sweltering 100 degrees. Thank god for air conditioning.

I have a heavy work schedule while here, but there are a few intervals of socializing mixed in, and I'm tacking one extra free day on the end. On Wednesday and Thursday I'll be having two get-togethers at wildly different ends of my personal spectrum. It should be a fun exercise in compare and contrast.

Finger and Toes Crossed

After a bit of a stutter, it looks like I'm in bizniz, DSL-wise. I'll allow things to have a bit of a shake-out period, but I think I'm all okay.

Verizon Mac tech support "Daniel" gets credit for this one.

NAMI Again

I'm working part-time at NAMI again. I think it's likely to be a relatively short gig, so I'm definitely still looking for the Real Job (TM) that's out there for me, somewhere.

At the moment, the schedule is Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a third day each week TBD. Like, for example, this week it's today.

Raining & Pouring

No, not the weather. The weather is beautiful.

All of a sudden I'm quite busy. My supervisor at NAMI has just gone on indefinite leave, with a bunch of major tasks pending. InterMedia wants to finish up the redesign work and go live with the new version quick-like. My sister is desperate to get a revised and easier-to-edit version of her website up and running as soon as possible. There's other stuff too.

I must make lists. Lists, do you hear?!

I hate lists.

Fannie No

The job at Fannie Mae didn't happen. Not even an interview. Disappointing.

Next!

Oh, the Mundanity!

This week features the following events of note:
  • the brain surgery of my parish's rector, Jim Donald, to install a shunt, which we hope will relieve the pressure on his brain (please join me in praying for his health and well-being);

  • three days of admin work, Monday through Wednesday, at NAMI (the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill);

  • two mid-week runs of approximately 5-7 miles each;

  • a chance to catch up on solo socializing whilst Andrew disports himself at Yoga Camp;

  • an opportunity to make some more silver jewelry, thanks to the generous birthday gift of PMC from David & Lynn; and

  • a 22 mile run on Saturday morning (which definitely indicates that I am insane, please pity me).
I have a few possible job irons in the fire. I'll certainly let you know if any of them progresses beyond the "I-sent-in-a-resume-through-somebody-I-know" phase.
